By "Big Dog" Benny Henderson Jr, Doghouse Boxing (July 12, 2012) Doghouse Boxing

Tonight at the Florentine Gardens, Hollywood, California, the undefeated welterweight prospect Zachary Wohlman 3-0 (1), aims to keep his unblemished record intact when he steps in against the hard hitting Jose Martell 2-2-1 (2). The pupil of Freddie Roach looks to not only win, but win impressively as well as entertaining the fight fans. In this exclusive interview, Wohlman talks about his upcoming fight, career and more, enjoy.

Benny Henderson Jr.
Thanks again for stepping in the Doghouse, the first time we spoke, you had one fight down. How has the progress been?

Zachary Wohlman
It has been great, I got myself a knock out win, been training with Paul Malignaggi, got to go to Ukraine with him. It has been great.

BH
You broke out in December 2011, all though you have been in the business for such a short period of time, what have you learned about yourself as well as the business?

ZW
Well, I can only speak from my own experience, but it is definitely a business before it is a sport. I am very particular in what goes on in my career, you can call is hustling, but it is definitely self promoting. You have to get your name out there, being good is great, but you have to seel tickets.

BH
Freddie Roach to you from the amateurs to the pros, what have you learned from Freddie, aside from just boxing?

ZW
It has been great, I have changed as a pro. Freddie is very professional, our relationship changed from the amateurs to the pros, it is like we both stepped it up. Obviously Freddie doesn’t have to step anything up, but it seemed like he did. He showed me so many different aspects of the sport.

BH
How is it working in the Wild Card gym?

ZW
It has been great, I just watch and learn, also, I watch the guys in my weight class and I see how I can do against them. If you want to take yourself to the next level that is the gym to be at.

BH
Do you know anything about your opponent?

ZW
I know he has a five hundred record, and I am going to show up and fight.

BH
Your last fight you gained your first knock out, what was it like stopping an opponent?

ZW
You know, I have talked to other fighters about this, I did not know who I was going to fight until weigh in, the guy was like a foot taller than me, he had a losing record, but he was huge. The bell rings and he comes out just banging, in about a minute and forty-seconds I dropped down to his body, and I dropped him. At this point he was holding his hand and his body. In truth, I think he tried to knock me out and found out that, that was not going to happen and found a soft spot in the canvas. I felt like I got robbed of a really good knock out.

BH
What can the fight fans expect from you come fight night?

ZW
To come out and establish the jab and a better boxing ability. The boxers I box in the gym, I compete at their level. But I am going to go in the ring and be a better boxer.

BH
Anything in closing?

ZW
I am enjoying this ride, I am working hard and I thank all of my fans, it is really humbling.
