Five Fighters To Make Pro Debut at TONIGHT!!
Every athlete in every professional sport remembers his professional debut. The nervous energy and adrenaline rush caused by the once in a lifetime moment is hard to ever duplicate again. For any athlete making a pro debut, their chosen sport has already become a way of life and the list of sacrifices is already a mile long. Even more so for a boxer or MMA fighter. And often times for a boxer or MMA fighter stepping into the ring or cage for the very first time as a professional, the initiation into the sport usually comes with a punch to the face.
On Thursday, October 30th, two boxers and two MMA fighters make their professional debut at HOLLYWOOD FIGHT NIGHT 8. Hollywood Fight News profiles the boxers who will always remember Thursday, October 30th as the night the first stepped into the squared circle as a pro.
Boxer Juan Roman first started training as a fighter almost 10 years ago. The Puerto Rican phenom went from admiring his countryman Tito Trinidad to winning the NY Daily News Golden Gloves…TWICE! The boxer-puncher deflects any notion that there will be jitters before his first pro fight and says that his pro debut will feel like another day at the office. He looks forward to heading back to New York as an undefeated professional.
Derion "DC" Chapman
Southpaw MMA fighter Derion "DC" Chapman aka The Thriller aka Just Stylin’ was on a date with his fiancé at a local movie theatre when a fight broke out and he went in to break it up. Chapman found himself in the middle of the fight and handled himself well. After seeing Chapman come out of the fight unharmed, his fiancé asked why Chapman did not try fighting for a living. He told her that he didn’t have money to train so she gave him a $100 and an mma career began. Fast forward a couple of years later and the House of Champions product went undefeated as an amateur (6-0) and became the U of MMA Champion. In his free time, the slick moving Chapman who describes himself as a freestyle hip hop MMA fighter, owns his own dance school and performs and teaches dance professionally. He sees his first professional bout ending in a 1st round TKO or submission.
MMA Fighter Matt Spencer began as a trainer in strength and conditioning. When one of his teammates got injured, Spencer stepped in for him. Although he lost his first amateur bout, Spencer was hooked on fighting and his newfound career led to 5 consecutive victories for a 5-1 amateur record and a Top 10 ranking in CAMO. Spencer is very excited to be making his professional debut in front of his friends, family, and clients. He says he has had the best training camp he has ever had and cannot wait to see how he handles himself as a pro. His goals as a professional are very simple…finishing fights and winning championships.
Adel Al Tamimi
Adel Al Tamimi still remains a bit of a mystery to the local MMA circuit. He has only one amateur bout in California (a loss) and has decided that the professional circuit is more his speed. An accomplished Kyokushkin (stand-up, full contact Karate) practitioner, Al Tamimi has been working on his ground game to become a well rounded MMA fighter for his professional debut, recently earning his Brazilian Jiu Jitsu blue belt. Al Tamimi trains out of the World Famous Blackhouse MMA Gym and hopes to continue in the long tradition of Blackhouse champions.
Davon "Danger" Smith
The professional debut for Davon Smith is a long time coming. Smith has been in a boxing gym training since 1998 because his father had a love for the sport of boxing. After feeling he did not get fair shakes in his first five amateur bouts, Smith left boxing for five years. When he returned at 17 years of age, he went on a long winning steak that spanned over 50 bouts. While spending almost all of his time in the gym, Smith had time to train in the California Conservation Corps for one year and would like to become a reserve fire fighter after his boxing career is over. But he intends to become the #1 pound-for-pound fighter in the world first. And it all starts at Hollywood Fight Night October 30th.
